Fraunhofer IWKS

Fraunhofer Research Institution for Materials Recycling and Resource Strategies IWKS (leading)

The Fraunhofer IWKS pursues as a strategic goal the development of processes for the recovery of recyclable materials as a business model. One focus is on the development of sorting processes on an industrial scale. For this purpose, the modular sorting system is used to research industrial sorting challenges and to enable upscaling of innovative sorting sensor technology. For example, a process for sorting shredded smartphones was developed as part of the EU project "DISPLAY". The "IRVE" project is researching the sorting of electronic assemblies. In addition, projects on sensor-based sorting were carried out with industrial partners. The lead project "Waste4Future" aims to develop innovative sorting options for current as well as future complex material flows. In this way, essential competencies are developed with which technologically and economically attractive solutions in central areas of the Circular Economy can be offered to industrial partners.
